How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer

Finding the right wedding photographer is not a game. It takes a lot of research to find a wedding photographer who will work for you as a couple. Your wedding photographer is one of the most important elements of your wedding day. If there is no right, there will not be an opportunity to reschedule your wedding photos.

How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer

There is a very big difference between a professional photographer and someone with a professional camera. The best lenses and camera do not mean they can take fantastic photos. Don't let your uncle/aunt/niece or nephew take your wedding as a gift. Make sure you know who you choose to take your wedding to, is able to provide the best photos for you. Photos that are professional and of high quality.

This article is a long article, but you get a lot of detail and consists of three main parts. The selection process. Steps after deciding on a photographer. Then what to do on the day of your wedding. Enjoy it and share it with your family and friends.

The selection process:
Portfolio:
Check out the photographer's portfolio online. If you like the photographer's style and quality of work, make an appointment with the photographer. Take a close look at the photographer's print portfolio. It does not help the photographer's work online is outside the world, but his / her print portfolio does not fall apart. Different photographers have different styles. So make sure the photographer you choose is the kind of style you are looking for. It doesn't help the price is in your budget, but you don't like the particular photographer's style of taking.

Experience:
Make sure the wedding photographer has enough experience and do it for a long time as the main photographer before he/she comes to take your wedding. If you don't have a big budget, then the photographer's experience won't be very good either. Taking a wedding is not children's games! It takes a lot of technical and practical aspects to capture the perfect moment without any problems. Small things like a photographer's extra equipment that professional photographers usually use, should something go wrong on your wedding day like a camera falling off.

Budget:
Wedding photographers are not cheap. It's an investment and they capture your wedding day in photos that you will keep for the rest of your life. Make sure you spend between 500$ and 2000$ for a good wedding photographer. There are different levels in which photographers can be divided from beginner, part-time professional, professional and then top professional. Photographers are not only expensive because they suck the prices out of their thumbs. If you want to drive a luxury car, you're going to have to pay a more expensive price and it's the same with photographers. Professional photographers have many issues such as professional camera and lighting equipment, marketing, website, staff, computer, petrol.

The list goes on and it's all just business expenses. We have not yet come to profits and personal expenses. Many people do not understand how a photographer can make them three months' salary in one day. This is not entirely true, as the day of your wedding is only a small part of the photographer's work. There are still many steps that the photos need to go through before they are delivered to you.

Contract photography:
It is important that you understand the content of the photographer's contract. If you don't understand something, ask the photographer to explain it via email. Please do not contract questions and details by phone, keep it in writing.

Check out the photographer's copyright clause. Whether the photographer remains the owner of the copyrighted photographs and what rights are transferred to you as the client. Also, read about the deposit clause and what exactly the photographer needs to confirm the date for you without any problems.

Make sure the photographer does his / her work and does not shoot anyone else under the photographer's name. If the photographer does not have a contract, ask the photographer for one. It is important to have a deal for any business transaction.

Understand what you pay for:
  • Make sure you understand exactly what the photographer's package includes. Read it again and if you're still not sure. Ask the photographer via email to explain the package.
  • See how many hours the package you book includes.
  • Ask if the photographer works with or without an assistant?
  • Does your package include one or two photographers? If two, ask who is the other photographer and what will he/she takedown?
  • How many photos does the package include?
  • What are the costs if the photographer has to stay longer on the day of your wedding?
  • Can you notify the photographer on the day that he/she should stay longer at the wedding?
  • How much travel costs are included in the package? What do additional travel costs cost?

You should feel comfortable with your wedding photographer:
The photographer is probably the only person who will be in your presence all day. You should be able to get along well with your choice of photographer. Make sure you and the photographer can talk and interact with each other. Never be an 'I am the boss' towards a photographer. This makes it very difficult for the photographer to work with you.

Be honest and be yourself at your meeting. So you and the photographer can know if you are meant for each other and will get along. Remember, you probably spend 90 percent of your wedding day with your husband/wife and then the photographer. Make sure you can spend as much time with the person you choose without getting annoyed as it will affect your photos.

After deciding on a photographer:

Send a list of specific photos you need:
Photographers love to know which groups of people to focus on at your wedding day. Send a list of group photos to your photographer. Make sure you get someone that everyone knows. Who is in charge of the list on the day of the wedding. The photographer does not know your guests, nor is it the photographer's responsibility to manage your guests.

Inform your photographer immediately if anything changes:
If anything changes to the layout of the day or a physical change such as venue, reception, place where you dress, etc. Let the photographer know immediately! It helps the photographer to adjust his / her schedule for the day as well.

Send all addresses and phone numbers to your photographer:
It is very important that the photographer can get hold of you on the day of your wedding. Make sure you give phone numbers of people who will be with you on the day if the photographer needs to get hold of you urgently.

Ask your photographer for advice before confirming your timeline with other service providers:
Photographers know what kind of sunlight they need for the best photos. Make the photographer part of your timeline planning. Your photographer will tell you if the light is too bright or too dim for the photoshoot.

Send the final timeline to your photographer:
When you have finalized the timeline, make sure you send it to the photographer. Time is a very important factor for a wedding photographer.

How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer

On the day of your wedding:

Ask guests to give the photographer space:
Make sure the priest/pastor announces at the beginning of the church service even before the bride walks in that all cell phones, iPad, and other cameras must be out of the photographer's path. That means no pictures in the hallway! It can really spoil your special day and the most beautiful photos.

Arrange food for the photographer:
If possible, try to give the photographer and his / her assistant food first. Otherwise, he/she will still eat while you start talking or dancing. Have the photographer sit in the reception room at a table. Don't let your photographer sit in a dark hallway where he/she can't see anything going on.

Please let the venue serve your photographer and his / her assistant the same food as your guests. There is nothing so ugly when you do not have enough respect for your service providers. Your photographer can't go to a restaurant to buy something yourself. He/she is there to take your wedding.

Entertain guests while you are in your photoshoot:
Get something for your guests to do during your photoshoot. Guests get tired and annoyed if they have to wait. Do not rush the photographer, it will stress him/her and then you will get a rushed product.

Arrange someone for your handbag and hold things during the photoshoot:
The photographer and his / her assistant are there to assist the photographer. He/she is not the bridal couple's assistant to hold handbags, make-up, shoes, sunglasses and whatever else. Make sure you take one person who can do it.

Make sure the reception has enough light.
Candles are beautiful, but they are not light. It looks very cute in photos. We talk about enough light so the photographer can get a nice photo. Without it, the photographer seemed to only have to use a camera flash. The more light there is, the more natural your photos will come out.
